How to Grow Natural Hair Very Long

Wash your hair at least once every two weeks-

Although coily and kinky hair does not get dirty as quickly as straighter types, it does not mean that you should go without washing for months. An oily, dirty scalp means that you have buildup. Buildup on the scalp can hinder growth. The average rate of hair growth is about half an inch per month. Make sure your scalp is clean so that it will not stunt your hair growth.

Trim your hair-

Don’t forget to trim your hair. Although you are trying to grow your hair, if you have split ends it will seem as if your hair is not growing. Split ends are detrimental to the health of your hair. They make the hair break off on the ends and look thin. Although it is important to trim, you must not overdo it. If you trim too often, your hair will not achieve any length. You can not achieve any length if you are constantly trimming it away. The key is to use moderation. Trim about an inch of your hair every 6 months. That is more reasonable than trimming once a month.

Moisturize-

Dry hair equals brittle hair that breaks easily during manipulation. You want to make sure that you moisturize your hair with conditioner and oils. Curly hair tends to be drier so conditioning is very beneficial to kinky hair. It keeps the hair soft, supple, and reduces tangles and dryness.

Protein Treatments-

Although the hair needs moisture, over-moisturizing the hair can lead to breakage. If your hair is too soft and stringy when you wash it and breaks a lot when you comb it while wet, it may be a sign that your hair is over-moisturized. You can use a protein treatment like Aphogee to strengthen the hair, but make sure you follow the directions. If you hair is not over moisturized or damages, do not use it. Hair that is not in need of protein will become hard, brittle, and break off.  When you use a protein treatment, always use a conditioner afterwards.

Avoid dry combing or brushing-

Natural hair should never be brushed, so throw away all of your brushes. (I am sorry if you just bought one) If you are trying to do a slick bun, a Denman is the only type of brush that should be used. Only comb your hair when wet. Dry hair breaks easily when combed. Wet hair provides lubrication, allowing the comb to glide easily through the hair without breaking it. With that said, make sure than you take your time because although wet combing is better, the hair can also be very fragile when wet. Don’t comb your hair in a rush. If there are any knots take your time and remove them instead of trying to pull the comb through.

Avoid Over-manipulation-

The more you manipulate your hair, the more opportunity you have to break the hair by accident or cause split ends from combing. The less you handle your hair is the better. Try going at least one week without manipulating your hair. If you follow all of these tips, it is possible for you to grow at least 6 inches of hair within a year.
